INSTRUCTION

Week 3

For project 1, we were given 6 scenarios and we will need to choose 2 to write up a story for each scenario. Also, we should not add dialogue to the story. Then, choose one to proceed with the project. Below are the 6 scenarios provided:

The choice scenario are:
1. Wildlife + Background
2. Everyday Home Life + Background
3. Cities + Transport + Exterior Atmosphere
4. Industry and Electronic sounds + Background
5. Weather + Background
6. Market + Rural atmosphere + Background

Below are the 2 stories that I prepared:

Wildlife + Background (Tiger Hunting)

A tiger (TIger A)  is ambusing in the grass and targeting a deer who is drinking water beside the waterfall. The tiger walks closer to the deer slowly. Suddenly the deer is scared by a roaring sound from a far distance. The deer ran away and another tiger (Tiger B) appear. Both of them hiding in grass and making a threatening voice. Tiger B jumped out from the grass and attack Tiger A. They fight for a few seconds, Tiger A kicks Tiger B, and Toger B falls into the waterfall. Tiger A roar and walk away.

Cities + Transport + Exterior Atmosphere

A man walks out from a company walking to his car at parking. Then, he drives to the road and facing a very serious traffic jam. Everyone was honking and he started to irritable. He also started to honk. Suddenly, there is a loud sound from opposite street and an accident happened.

Week 4

Based on the feedback by Mr.Razif, story 2 can be more interesting and give variation to the environment. He gave me a lot of suggestions to add to the story and some guides on how to create that sound.

Cities + Transport + Exterior Atmosphere

A man walks out from a company walking to his car in the basement. He unlocks his car and opens the door. After he sits in the car, he opens the car window as there is a smell in his car. Then, he drives to the road and facing a very serious traffic jam. The honking sound was too loud, so he closes his car window. Everyone was honking and he started to irritable. He also started to honk. Suddenly, there is a loud sound from opposite street and an accident happened. Then, the man walks out of his car trying to move forward and see what's going on. The man saw a guy with a gun run out from the crashed car. Not even 1mins, the police car is there. The car that caused the accident was a thief who trying a run away from the police. The thief shoots the police and the police shoot him back. Everyone was screaming. Finally the police shoot the thief"s leg and they arrest him immediately. Later on, the helicopter and ambulance is here. Everyone was clapping for the police.

After I have the story, I went to https://freesound.org/ to get the sound that I want. Hence, I started my test on Adobe Audition. Below is my progression and outcome.

Fg.1.1 Progression of testing Project 1

After we did our testing, Alfie, Jonathan, and I was having our own discussion in our group. We share our work and give feedback to each other. From Alfie and Jon, my footsteps sound is too low, it sounds far. So, I made the footsteps sound louder and have my test 1.1 version.

Comments

  1. the second story can be elaborated more. For example, to give variation to the environment, the car park can be a basement car park and therefore you can try and use EQ and reverb to create the "basement" sound. you know, when walking toward the car.. the footsteps is different from walking on the roadside. plus there could be some echo sound for the footsteps (imagine and empty shopping mall car park). then he drives out..as he reached the outdoor area, the sound (of the car engine, tyres etc) started to change. Traffic sound gradually becomes more apparent. Maybe at this point his car window is opened, so he closed it as the traffic sound is getting too loud. here u can play with EQ as well making the traffic sound a bit muffled when the window is fully closed. So yeah lotsa things can be expanded here. try continue by imagining the details that might happen around you.
