LECTURES
Week 5
This week's lecture was given by group 2 on the topic "Designing Type". There are 6 sections provided in this presentation which are the anatomy of type, general process of designing type, how to think before drawing, construction of component, characteristics of good type design, and different processes & approaches that 3 different designers go through.
At the anatomy of type section, most of the things we had learned during Typography class. At the general process of type design, the steps to design a type is stated. First, we need to do research then do some sketches. After the sketches, digitize our design on Adobe Illustrator and then testing in content. Basically, all of these are what we did before during the Typography class. For me, the most interesting section was the characteristics of the good type design section because I feel like I learned something from here.
Week 6
No lecture for this week but continue with our project during class.
Week 7
No class for this week, due to public holiday.
INSTRUCTION
PROJECT 1
Week 5
After all the exercise, we started our first project. In this project, we were given four topics which are the topics we used for exercise 1. (All Ripped Up: Punk Influences on Design, Russian Constructivism and Graphic Design, The ABCs of Bauhaus Design Theory) We were asked to choose 1 topic and create a key artwork for it. Key artwork can also call as Key Visual, it's intended to be printed on anything for example T-shirt, poster, tote bag, and so on. It is similar to logo but not exactly a logo. The topic that I choose is The ABCs of Bauhaus Design Theory.

Firstly, I created a black and white template for the words then I try to play with it with different composition and layout. The one at the right looks like it doesn't work and the left bottom one looks too much like a logo which I'm not sure am I doing the right thing. So I try to come out the other one.

Week 6
This week, Mr. Vinod and Mr.Shamsul checked our progression of key artwork and gave us some feedback one by one. Mr.Vinod suggests us to start from a black and white version before the colors. If the black and white version doesn't work, the one with color definitely will not work. Then, I make my work to black and version and see how they look like.

During my turn to collect feedback, Mr.Vinod went to reply to other student message and Mr.Shamsul gave me some feedback. He told me to be careful about the shape of my triangles. He suggests me to work on the last one (right bottom).
Week 7 & 8
The top left artwork in Fg.1.3 is the old work, the top right and the bottom left one is my work after given feedback by Mr.Shamsul.
There is no class for week 7 due to the Raya holiday, but I did ask for feedback from Mr.Vinod. Mr.Vinod gave me some suggestions for the position of the word "the". In week 8, during the tutorial section, again I collected some feedback from Mr.Vinod. I did a huge mistake which is applying the wrong title. The title should be "The ABC's of Bauhaus Design Theory" but not "ABC's of The Bauhaus and Design Theory". The position of the word "the" should at the beginning and the is no "and". I found out that the reason I applied the wrong title is that when I was collecting some references, I accidentally memorized the title of the example and they are really similar.
After the feedback, I came out with a new design. Not really a new design but just changing the position of the words and add a triangle.

Week 9
This week we actually started our project 2 which is creating an A3 poster based on our key artwork and the details provided by the lecturer. When I was designing the poster, I received some feedback from the lecturer and I decided to come out with new key artwork. The reason I want to do this is because of my previous design is domaining by the non-objective elements and I want to avoid it. Fg.1.5 shows my new key artwork.

FEEDBACK
Week 5
General Feedback:
The ratio of image and text should be 50:50 for our work.
Mr.Shamsul asked me to be careful about the triangles, they should be an equilateral triangle. He suggested me to work on the last design. He also suggests me to narrow the space between the squares and words. The last suggestion is, make the word "Bauhaus" in the same size.
Week 7
Specific Feedback:
Not much feedback for this week as it was a holiday. I asked feedback from Mr.Vinod through Messenger. Mr.Vinod gave me some suggestions to put the word "the".
Week 8
General Feedback: We were suggested to show our work to others and see either it is readable. Specific Feedback: I need to rearrange the word "the" and the word "and" should not exist as it does not appear in the title provided. If the arrangement does not work, I will need to come out with a new design.REFLECTION
Week 5
Observation:
The lecture given by group 2 was really informative. Also, there is a lot of info that we had learned and experienced before during the Typography class. For example, the steps of designing a typeface.
Finding:
I think I will need to improve my time management. As I was too focusing on other projects which caused me to finish the key artwork in rush. This also caused the outcome quality is not that well.
Week 6
Observation:
Most of our key artwork is not accepted by the lecturer as most of us still don't really understand what is key artwork. A lot of us did it like a poster but key artwork is actually more like a logo (but not a logo).
Finding:
Next time when I design something, I should start with black and white first. If the design doesn't work in black and white, it will be most probably not working with the colors.
Week 7
No Class Due to Public Holiday
Week 8
Observation:
When I look at others' work, I feel like my work has some distance to their work. In my opinion, their work is way better than mine but some of them still got rejected by the lecturer.
Finding:
I was kind of stress when I saw my classmate's work got rejected even though their design looks good. I feel like I had tried my best but I think I need to push myself more.
