Week 4

After presenting our proposal to the lecturers and got approval, we started to think about the ways that we are going to collect the data that we need. We will need to figure out the ways this week as we are going to Tokyo next week. And we decided to collect the data by taking photos, interviews and also sketch. Other than that, we do need to do some research on where are the places that we are going to collect the data (for example, the shops we are going).

Week 5

Unfortunately, the day we went to Tokyo is still winter and there is no cosplay event going on. We get to know that we will have a high chance to get cosplayer in Akihabara and Harajuku. So we there to spot some cosplayers. Other than that, we went to Sensoji Temple and Tokyo National Museum to do research on masks.

So we interviewed the cosplayers that we met at Akihabara. We did interview some cosplay shops worker but they rejected because they can't accept any interview without their manager's permission.
When we were at Akihabara, we saw some girls cosplaying as a maid but we are not allowed to take photo of them. Our solution sketched out the scenario and try to take photo of them from a far distance.

We also interviewed a souvenirs shop owner around Sensoji Temple. We asked them about the function of the masks and she told us that some of the masks are just for decoration but some of them are wearable, based on the materials. Then we took some photos of masks in the Tokyo National Museum. The mask at there was slightly different from what we see outside. The masks in Tokyo National Museum are more realistic and they do look creepy.

Week 6

We presented our Data Collection this week. Mr.Charles told us that we got not enough data about cosplayers. We don't really answer our research questions. The lecturers suggested us to slightly change our research questions as we got enough data about the cosplay element but not the cosplayers. For the masks, mostly complete. Also, they asked us to work on the other more data that we have.
