Week 1 ( 27/8/19 ): Briefing and Introduction

In the first class of this module, we learned some basics photo editing skills with Adobe Photoshop. Mr.Martin and Mr.Jeffrey are the lecturers who are going to teach us in this module. After a tutorial on how to use photoshop tools by Mr.Jeffrey, we were given a photo of Hearst Mansion to do some practice. I was very excited about it and I wanna do something very challenging. The first thing came to my mind was Dr.Strange. I wanna photoshop Dr.Strange walking out from a portal and stepping on his magic spell on the pool.

Firstly, I open the photo of Hearst Mansion and the photos that I need which are from Google.

Hearst Mansion as the main Background.
I choose this poster because in this poster Dr.Strange has one leg is out of the portal so I do not need more time to edit the legs. The background in this portal is not the one in my imagination, so I didn't use the whole portal but editing a portal by myself.

A scene from Doctor.Strange movie at New York street as the background of the portal.
The portal that Dr.Strange will walk out from.

The Final Product

It doesn't look very realistic and professional, but I had tried my best since I'm still not familiar with photoshop.

Before the class ended, Mr.Jeffrey did gave us an exercise which is photoshop ourself in the photo given ( Hearst Mansion ). I feel like this is so hard to edit as I want it to look like professional's work. If I just want to finish the work and submit, then it's easy. The reason that I say it is very hard to photoshop ourself in the photo of Hearst Mansion is because 40% of the photo is the area of swimming pool, 50% of the photo is the wall or windows. We got only 10% area to photoshop ourself and the area are far from the camera. We have to resize ourself and it will look very small, even cannot know who is that. If we don't resize ourself the portion will be wrong and the photo will not make sense. Of course, when we are doing photo editing, other than proportion, we have to consider where is the light source. It will relate to where should we add the shadow and highlight.

This is a very memorable photo for me and I choose this photo for this exercise.

 The Final Product

I choose that place to put on my photo because of the angle. That place is suitable for my photo so I do not need to take a new photo.

Week 2 (3/9/19)

To begin the second class of this module, Mr. Jeffrey began the class by asking us what we had learned last week. After a few minutes, Mr. Jeffrey brief and show us what are we going to do today.
In, today's class we were given some photos.

Fg.1.1 The Background

Fg. 1.2 The Building

Fg. 1.3 The Ghost Bride

We have to combine these three photos into one photo. Fg.1.1 as the background, the building from Fg.1.2 and the ghost bride from Fg.1.3.

Fg. 1.4 The Final Product
Instead of placing the ghost bride in the house, I place it on the cloud. You can see that the bride is coming home or she finally decided to leave the old house.

Then, we were given another few photos to create another one. We can choose the best one to submit.
Fg. 1.5 The background
I accidentally lost the photo of the house.... I did two for this exrcise, one is darker but it looks blur. The second one looks clear but didn't bring out the feeling that I want so I choose the first one.

Week 3 (10/9/2019)

Same as last week, Mr.Jeffrey started the class with recap us what we learned last week. Then he shows us what we going to do in the class today. So, this week we learned about photo recolouring. We learned to make black and white photos into a colourful photo.

Fg. 2.1 We were given this photo to have a try
Instead of making it into "super" colourful, I decided to make it a "normal" person with normal skin colour, brown hair, blue eyes, and pink lips. But in the end, I feel like this is such a boring photo.

Fg. 2.2 My recoloured version

After that, we were asked to search for a black and white photo and recolour it. Fg.2.3 is the photo of a China singer call as Hua Chen Yu, I'm his fan and I like all his songs. People would say that his song is weird and people call his fans as ET which is alien.

Fg.2.3 Hua Chen Yu from Google

Fg.2.4 Hua Chen Yu from Google recoloured version 1
This is my first try and I did get some feedback from Mr.Jeffrey. Mr.Jeffrey said that the face looks too white like he is sick and I can still improve the hair. Also, he asked me to recolour the lips too.

Week 4 (17/9/2019)

This week we learned something about texture. We learned to apply the texture from a photo on another photo. This is interesting but also a bit more complicated than what we had learned in the past few weeks. We were given a photo of India's national flag and a photo of twisted cloth.

Fg.3.1 India's national flag

Fg.3.2 Twisted cloth texture

What we need to do is apply the texture of twisted cloth to the flag. First, we need to save the photo of twisted cloth in to black and white file. Then use the distort tool to make the flag have the texture of twisted cloth. Hence, use blending mode to make it more realistic. Other than that, adjust the brightness, hue and saturation.

Fg.3.3 India's national flag with texture
After that, we tried animal skin on human face. Same way to do it, just different objects. I tried to apply the snakeskin on a man's face.

Fg.3.5 Snakeskin

Fg.3.6 A man with snakeskin
After that, we were asked to swap the animal's skin. We have to apply another animal's skin on an animal. I was trying to do something challenging like apply tiger's skin on a polar bear but it doesn't look real enough.

Fg.3.8 Tiger's Skin

Fg.3.9 Polar bear with tiger's skin
I feel like I won't get a good mark for this so I decided to do another one which is a simple one. I decided to apply the jaguar's skin on a husky.

Week 5 (24/9/2019)

This week we were given a photo of castle on a huge stone at the sky called as Castle of Pyrenees and we were asked to recreate something like that. We need a castle on a stone at the sky but we can play around with the background.

Fg.4.1 Castle of Pyrenees
I was a Disney fanboy so I decided to use Disney's castle. Also, I plan to create a stone with my illustration husky Junny's head shape. About the background, I want to use a galaxy background so it will look like a Junny's planet. Junny was created because I felt lonely and boring, whenever I feel alone, Junny is there for me. I keep myself busy by drawing Junny and post on Instagram to avoid loneliness and bored. Basically, Junny is living in his own world, in other words, in my own world. I decided to use a galaxy background and create a Junny's Planet to show my own world.
